Hello, My name is John Patchin. What started out as me researching my family history (arrived in 1638, on the ship Hercules from Ashford, England) and the part they played in the Revolutionary and Civil Wars eventually led to my interest in Civil War history, and in particular the part California played in that war. I spent years searching for, collating, and indexing data. I traveled the state going to libraries and museums looking for little known books and publications. I've talked with historians, traveled to cemetaries and amassed a considerable amount of information. I have assembled this data into 14 volumes (There were 14 units formed in California) each volume is a listing of the names and the history of each unit.)

I am a member of the Sons of the American Revolution, and the Sons of the Union Veterans of the Civil War. I am a member of Northern California Reactors of the Civil War (RACW) I was recently appointed to GRO,Grave Registration Officer, Department of Pacific, and California.

I was born in Crawford, Nebraska, raised in North Eastern California. I was a jet mechanic in the Air Force (1955-59) honorably discharged at Edwards Air Force Base. Then a machinist at Mare Island Naval Shipyard, retired in 1985.
Currently living in Los Molinos, CA.
